Welcome to the Topic “Best Luxury Watches to Invest In (2023)”

This year, the most sought-after investment opportunity was a luxury watch, surpassing both Bitcoin and classic automobiles. Although the price of watches has dropped since the catastrophic crypto crisis, it is still well above what it was in 2019. People invested their meagre savings on luxury timepieces like Rolex and Patek Philippe. As their secondhand values rose, everyone was interested in well-known watch manufacturers.

Keeping that in mind, we present the following seven high-end timepieces as the best buys of 2023:

Rolex Submariner

The Rolex Submariner was first introduced in 1953 for professional divers, and since then, both its design and value have improved significantly. As an example, the Rolex Submariner, or “Rolex Hulk” as it is more colloquially known, is one of the rarest and, hence, most expensive watches available from this manufacturer. The massive lugs and ceramic bezel make this timepiece quite substantial. If you want to buy this timepiece from Sotheby’s, be prepared to spend more than $12,000.

More importantly, Rolex has gradually raised the price of yet another Submariner model. As a result of its high demand, the price has risen from $8,100 in 2021 to $8,950 in January 2022, an increase of about 10%.

Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711

In 2022, when Americans first saw the financial potential of Swiss watches, Patek Philippe and its classic Nautilus 5711/1A model were at the top of many wish lists. Unfortunately, Patek Philippe’s website announced the official retirement of the iconic timepiece this year. This goodbye raised the watch’s market value, but it was still sad. It went for US$6.5 million at an auction in December 2021. Sotheby’s estimates that this timepiece will set you back more than $60,000 USD.

The Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A is a sporty premium steel watch that debuted in 1976 and has been called the “most sought watch in the world” by various publications. The face of this watch is horizontally engraved, and the case is a novel octagon shape. Celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio have been seen wearing it on special occasions despite the ten-year wait time.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak

During an auction in May of 2023, a vintage Audemars Piguet Royal Oak timepiece fetched over $1 million USD. In addition, Audemars Piguet, a prestigious watchmaker, had a 30 percent increase in sales to $1.6 billion in 2017. With the price hike, the company was able to compete economically with Patek. Watches by Audemars Piguet are obviously valuable, and keeping an eye on the company could pay out in spades down the road.

Pay special attention to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak line. Back in 1972, when it was first released, this watch stood out for its octagonal bezel and seamless strap. The average price for a used Royal Oak watch is $27,000, as reported by the Hodinkee store.

Omega Speedmaster “Moonwatch” 42 mm

Buzz Aldrin wore an Omega Speedmaster Professional watch as he made history on the moon in 1969. Since then, NASA has required its astronauts to wear the watch on every human space flight, earning it the affectionate moniker “Moonwatch.”

In 2021, Omega collaborated with rival watchmaker Swatch to release a younger, more cheaper variant of this watch called the MoonSwatch, which retails for roughly US$300. The unveiling of this watch was met with long lines and tremendous social media hype, solidifying the watch’s legacy and demand. If you like tradition, though, the Omega “Moonwatch” can set you back between $6,300 and $52,000, as stated on the company’s official website.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Grande Complication À Triptyque

Jaeger-Reverso LeCoultre’s is a one-of-a-kind high-end timepiece because its case can be worn on either the right or left wrist. In 1931, the watch was released in response to a request from a polo player for a sturdy timepiece that could endure the rigors of the sport.

It is still one of Jaeger-best-selling LeCoultre’s watches to this day. One indication of this watch’s enduring influence is the fact that it has changed little in appearance over the years. As an example, the Reverso Complication Triptyque is the first timepiece in this series to feature multiple dials. The unique clocks from the Reverso collection are an excellent investment. This timepiece will set you back over $75,000 USD, says Sotheby’s.

Vacheron Constantin Overseas 4500V

Long lines and high demand ensure that the Overseas continues to command a premium. A luxury timepiece first released in 1977 and redesigned in 2016, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas has stood the test of time. Since its release last year, the Overseas 4500V has become a social media darling, with many influential people being spotted wearing and promoting the watch.

The watch’s case and strap are made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel for a sporty look. According to Vacheron’s website, the cost of this timepiece is US$33,100.

A. Lange and Sohne Zeitwerk Minute Repeater

In November of 2021, the German watchmaker A. Lange & Sohne was in the middle of a supply-and-demand battle. Lange watch owners were ecstatic to see their timepieces potentially fetch high prices at auction.

The Zeitwerk Minute Repeater ref. 147.028 is an example of a timepiece with excellent resale value. The jumping numerals and decimal minute repeater make this the first mechanical wristwatch of its kind. As one of the watchmaker’s rarest creations, this white gold and blue timepiece is limited to just 30 pieces.

It’s important to remember that the watchmaker Lange only creates a few numbers of watches each year, so finding one might be a real challenge. Because of this, the cost of their timepieces has likely increased. Hodinkee estimates the cost of this clock to be close to US$500,000, so buyer beware.

The price of a high-end watch can be affected by several aspects in the present day, including its rarity and popularity on social media platforms. Luxury timepieces are, without a doubt, excellent financial commitments. They retain their worth, and in some cases even appreciate over time. If you consider yourself a watch connoisseur, buying a high-end wristwatch is a no-brainer.
